Giving someone a compliment can make their day and it’s a great way to make a real connection with a person, but, if your compliments are restricted to words like cool, nice and cute, then try adding some of these more descriptive words to your repertoire and compliment like a pro!
1. Stunning
Now, doesn’t ‘that dress looks stunning on you’ sound much better than ‘that dress looks nice’? Stunning means that it stands out from the crowd and it will get you noticed.
2. Awesome
This word can be overused by some people, but used sparingly, it really holds a great deal of power. Don’t overdo it though, someone winning an Olympic medal is awesome, but a cup of coffee is not!
3. Majestic
Majestic means royal, like a queen, so you are inferring noble qualities of an object or a person. A beautiful house could, for example, be majestic or a fantastic night out at a theatre or opera.
4. Magical
If you were to compliment someone on their jewelry, then that could be magical or if a guy takes you out on an incredible date that could be magical. It’s a compliment that says, it’s just like a fairy-tale come true.
5. Elegant
Elegant is sophisticated, dignified, graceful and perfect word to use for either a man or woman, who has made a real effort with their appearance. A top of the range car could also be elegant though, so it can be applied to anything smart and sophisticated.
6. Breathtaking
Breathtaking is a phrase that can only be used in a few circumstances and, remember, it could be taken two ways, so be careful! Something can be breathtaking, in its beauty, or it could be breathtaking, because it’s so awful.
7. Fascinating
If you’re impressed by someone’s personality and intelligence, then, fascinating, says a lot more, than just smart. Fascinating means they are interesting, as well as smart, and that you enjoy listening to what they have to say.
8. Perfect
9. Sparkling
Sparkling is a lovely word and a person’s eyes can sparkle, their smile can sparkle or they might have a sparkling personality. Either way, it’s a great compliment, as the other thing that sparkles are of course diamonds, and they’re really special.
10. Striking
Striking is a great way to express your appreciation of someone’s style and looks. You can even combine striking with complimentary words, such as ‘strikingly beautiful’ or ‘strikingly smart’.
